The boosted pressure oil output from a single-acting booster is intermittent. To achieve a continuous high-pressure oil output, a double-acting booster cylinder can be used.
The operating principle of a double-acting booster cylinder is shown in Figure 1. It consists of one double-acting cylinder and two single-acting cylinders on the left and right.
When the reversing valve in the figure repeatedly switches directions, the center double-acting cylinder continuously reciprocates left and right, and the left and right single-acting cylinders also move accordingly. One cylinder draws in liquid, while the other discharges the boosted liquid. Through the oil distribution of four check valves, the boosted high-pressure liquid can be continuously output from A.
Figure 1 (a) shows the case where the low-pressure and high-pressure cylinders use the same liquid, while Figure 1 (b) shows the case where the low-pressure and high-pressure cylinders use different liquids.
